Damn... so all the way to China then.

WhY sO fAaAr?!?!?😂😂

Nah but I feel your choice in going back will do you good. Nothing is better than goin’ back to a place of nostalgia and recollect fond memories of a time before. A place before the realization of real life catches you with your pants down and you have to wrestle with it.

When the biggest worry in your life was how are you going to tell your 3rd grade teacher that you didn’t do your homework? SHOULD you even tell her since you know you’ll be getting looks of “oh my sweet summer’s child”? Or just lie and say you are not feeling well so your parents can come pick you up before and you can avoid doomsday?

A simple hypothetical you know? Nothing that happened to me of course, just something a friend confided in me. LMAOOO

Anyboop, do take care wherever you go and heal your soul. I’m looking forward to seeing and knowing more about your birthplace!

Oh yes! The simpler times...when we were sweet summer children haha. I feel like I've kinda floated around for the past 10 years so it'll also be nice to go back to where I grew up :)

Wow that's a big life update, congrats~ I just stayed in Vancouver for a few weeks and already missed the food now. Also best luck with the travel in China. I was born and raised in China but haven't come back since 2019 due to Covid and long quarantine time.

The food in Vancouver is great!!

Oh that must be hard being away from family for so long. Do you miss China?

Expand full comment

Yes A LOT! Especially my family :-( China's development is so fast in the recent decades. Before the pandemic, I came home once a year and each time there's always something new in the city. With 4 years away, probably my hometown has turned into a brand new city. It's mixed feeling to see the covid restrictions are still strong tho. It's really hard for ppl who owns small business.

Holy sh*t. You’re going back? 😧 That’s big in my book, being an international student myself. Is it a visa/work authorization issue or is it because the U.S. has ceased to offer anything worth staying (I’m getting to that point lol)? This is just for my curiosity, you don’t have to answer if you don’t want to.

Oh yeah it's a huge decision! I've been deliberating on this for quite some time. It's the latter - I don't have a good reason to stay in the US anymore. I figured it's about time I come home and spend more time with my family before planning out the next steps!

This is a huge change. You are so brave!! I think I might need that book for future interviews too. I am not very good at it. 😅

I’m terrified but I read somewhere what scares you is an indication that it’ll be something that will make you grow (within reason lol). Also definitely check out the book - I’m just like wow I really need to improve on communication. I tend to be MUST SOLVE PROBLEM NOW and that isn’t a great approach because it can cause people with withdraw

I am also very result-oriented person. Sometimes I don't even say hello to a person and ask my question right away. I do this for not to take too much time from that person but sometimes It's just rude. 😅 So I think this book will help me a lot. I already found a copy. ✌️Thank you Tina. 💙🌷

I’m really happy to hear that ❤️❤️ Lmk what you think of the book. You know reading the book does hurt because it makes me realize all the things I did wrong. But I guess now I know and won’t make those mistakes huh?

Tyty yes peaceful sounds very good lol. Pls 🙏

Are you going to be able to do YT this newsletter and other projects in China? From an external ignorant view it seems like they live in a restringed gov bubble. Wish you the best above all, I've always enjoyed your content

Oh yeah I’m quite paranoid about that too. People tell me that vpns do work to some extent so I’m gonna download like 5 of them and hope 1 of them will work 🙃

Honestly going back is kinda scary because I’m so used to life in NA and I guess I’ll have to be more careful? I tell myself I can always leave tho to make myself feel better.

Best to you in everything! Random note I was just thinking, you should do a special video game chat stream. I know its not your thing but there's a game out called Stray, where you play as a cat. 🙂 figured you might like it while it'd be entertaining for us as you try to figure it out and react. 😆

Hi Tina,

A bit shocked you chose to go back to China now.

First, let me just say, I'm biased because I just choose to leave China a few weeks ago. But from what I observed, a lot of western educated Chinese are flocking out of China now. There is even a term for it now: 润学"Runology".

I really enjoy your content. Though your video, feel like I know you personally. So I don't want you make the decision without fully aware what you getting into. please do more research, talk to friends who live through the lockdown, at least adjust your expectation, because a lot of things you take for granted won't be.

Finnaly, if you still decided to go, wish you the best of luck

OMG moving to China! Thats so cool! What part of China are you going? I hope to move to Chengdu one day. Hopefully that 0-Covid policy gets axed soon, the lockdowns are really hurting the economy. "Blondie in China" on YouTube only had to quarantine 7 days recently.
