Hi friends! Hope everyone has had a wonderful holiday. HELLO 2024!!
This year for me started in Beijing with my family. I can’t believe it’s been 6 years since my entire family has met up in the house I grew up in. 🤯
Does anyone else have family that you don’t get to see very often?
Btw if anyone can guess where that photo is from I would be SO impressed and def will buy you a coffee if we do a Beijing meetup. Hint it’s in 朝阳区 👀
🌻 Interesting Things (I think)
A range of things that I find interesting! 👇
🤖 AI
So these little guys are everywhere in Beijing. They’re fully autonomous vehicles that do things like food and package delivery.
If you get in the way they say “Please let me through, I’m late.” So cute 🥺
This is how they work:
🚘 Imagine the little car is driving along.
🔎 Sensors monitoring and processing information about its environment constantly.
📍It uses GPS to confirm its position and understands that it’s approaching an intersection.
🛑 It also “sees” using computer vision to identify that the traffic light is red and accesses its past knowledge to decide to slow down and stop.
🟢 The light then turns green and it starts driving again.
😲 But then say a guy suddenly pops up jaywalking!
📣 It tracks the guy’s speed and trajectory to predict his path, evaluates that he’s way too close and decides to make noises to alert him and also emergency breaks.
Just last year I saw people riding motorcycles following the cars and correcting them when they do something wrong.
But now they’re all grown up and driving all by themselves all over the roads!

I like going to public places to work because I feel too much shame to watch anime and stupid Youtube videos in public. 🥹
