Hi friend! Howās it going??
Iāve been in Austin these past few weeks in an accelerator called Antler and itās been amazing. I met a lot of interesting people in different fields.
The way I ended up here is pretty crazy. A friend of mine introduced me to one of the partners at Antler and just said that itāll be good to chat. We chatted for 10 minutes and he asked if I just wanted to come to Austin and do the accelerator. I asked when it started and he said ātomorrowā. š
Anyways I felt like it must be fate so I tied up some loose ends in SF, said yes, and came to Austin 2 days laterā¦
Wish me luck on the pitch last week of November? š„ŗ
š» Things I learned
Iām sure youāve already heard about OpenAIās new announcements. If you havenāt, OpenAI released this new feature called GPTs where you can create custom versions of ChatGPT that combines custom instructions, knowledge, and combinations of different skills.
Quick Tutorial š
After clicking the Explore button on the top left hand side you should get to the GPTs page. You do need to have a paid version of ChatGPT to access GPTs.
You can use the different GPTs that OpenAI and other people have made or create your own. You can see I already have a GPT called SlideCraft that I was using to create my pitch deck. :)
Letās click Create a GPT and make a new one tho! How about a GPT that is able to summarize a book and give suggestions for how to apply it to your life?
Itāll then ask you a few more questions including what you want to call it (Book Insighter) and the profile picture. It also gives you some starter questions.
So Iāve been meaning to negotiate a sponsorship deal. You know those 60 second integration that youtubers have in their videos? Iām going to refer to my favourite negotiation book āNever Split the Differenceā and ask it to give me some tips for the negotiation.
The response:
Now letās try something else out! I have Poetics by Aristotle as a PDF downloaded. Iām going to give Book Insighter the PDF format and tell it to summarize it.
Now draw a picture of Aristotle reading poetics in a bed of daisies.
You can also add in more functionalities to your GPT in addition to web browsing, DALL-E image generation, and code interpreter. These are called Actions. For example, you can give it access to specific datasets or the ability to draw visual mind maps of the book summaries.
One more thing. They also released the Assistants API which is basically the API version of GPTs that you can programmatically do things and imbed it in your apps etc.
What does this all mean?
These GPTs are not necessarily innovative in themselves compared to what OpenAI has already released. For those of you that have played around with OpenAIās API before, itās basically just a prettier version of a system prompt and you can give it custom added functionalities like with plugins. But, for non-power users, this can be a game-changer because it allows everybody to have access to well designed chatbots. It helps the average user get more out of ChatGPT.
But whatās interesting is how OpenAI positions these GPTs. They are part of OpenAIās strategy to slowly introduce AI agents to the world.
Autonomous AI agents refer to artificial intelligence systems that can operate independently without human intervention. These agents are designed to make decisions and perform actions based on their programming, algorithms, and the data they perceive from their environment.
Autonomous AI agents will have applications such as:
Autonomous Vehicles: Navigation systems that are capable making decisions independently
Healthcare: Patient monitoring, diagnosis, and treatment
Manufacturing and Logistics: Manage production lines, inventory, and supply chains
Customer Service: Chatbots and virtual assistants that can handle customer queries and provide information
I have a feeling that Sam Altman will give us about a year or so before he releases fully autonomous AI agents. š¤
All of this will eventually lead into fulfilling OpenAIās core mission: to develop Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).
AGI possesses the ability to understand, learn, and apply its intelligence to a wide range of problems. It can theoretically perform any intellectual task that a human can do.
Thereās a lot more I want to talk about but Iāll leave it for now so this newsletter doesnāt become 20 pages long. š Lmk if youāre interested in me making a full video about this tho!
Btw I still absolutely stand by my opinion that if thereās anything you should be learning right now, regardless of your current occupation, itās how to work with AI. Make sure that itās being applied in a way that benefits humanity PLEASE. For those of you who are programmers or interested in the field, there is so much opportunity in developing/integrating AI software. š¤Æš¤Æ
Probably where to start is building GPTs.
P.S. All constructive feedback is greatly appreciated :)

I believe in both fate and the importance of embracing AI :)
I've been missing your letters! Happy to hear about you and definitely looking forward to that video about OpenAI and AGI :)
